Myths , words and liberals

I am a certified, sandle wearing, tree hugging liberal who has worked on some fancy weapons systems in the past as well as rock'n'roll groups. You might like to read the article in the link above though for some hard facts about USA liberals, a group I though extinct until recently.

One comment though. I had to look up the phrase "and the tryptophan torpor hits,". What the author meant to say I don't know but I guess he means that feeling of tiredness that comes after a heavy meal with wine.

In Israel, lefties are commonly thought to 'Hate Israel'. What puff. What nonsense. What self serving mindless rubbish Conservatives talk. Move over and let the genuine patriots take over.

israel to expel 2,000 African refugees.

A 'Light unto the Nations"? Israel should be ashamed of itself.

The trip

There were hundreds of good things about the recent holiday in Israel. I shall probably bore you to tears with all the stories.
When we were driving south there were warnings of flash floods in the Negev. The Eggheads were not anxious but happy we could go and see the Negev like this. At last, on Route 90 we came across water! Brown streams of water running across the road and in one case , a very busy JCB and team of people patching the road. The local Eggheads were enthralled. The visiting Egghead, coming from England wondered what all the fuss was about as the lane by her house resembles a river more than somewhere you can drive on.

Later, on Masada it rained and we saw a rainbow over En Gedi. A very special moment.

A holiday in Israel

It may be a truism but sometimes the best way to look at your own country is through somebody else's eyes. Showing my sister around Israel and especially the bits that tourist buses often do not go made me very thoughtful. Some things Israel does very very well. Other parts need attention. I've often considered Israel a 'work in progress' generally moving in the right direction with some rather odd steps off the path. Anyway, I'm still optimistic.

Work and holdays

The UK Egghead wends her weary way back to England after an exhausting trip seeing the main parts of Israel. Amazingly, she didn't see Tel Aviv except in passing which was considered a good thing by all concerned.

Jerusalem, Petra, Eilat, Acco, Haifa, Dead Sea, Kinneret, Golan heights and Zippori. Not in that order. Mea Shearim was a big hit for some reason as was Quintera. Permaculture, organic olive oil, family and more. If you are visiting Zippori, go to the village next to the ruins and enjoy some real , organic olive oil crushed between granite wheels.

The Eggheads will now recover by going back to work.

I recommend Petra especially the way we did it. 700 shekels per person gets you a car the other side of the Rabin crossing by Eilat. A driver takes you there, hands you over to a guide for two hours. Two more hours looking around, then back to the town and a nice lunch. Drive back to Aquaba for a quick look round then back to the crossing. You'll need 4 days to see it all though.

Our driver was wonderful. We swapped jokes on the way, stopped for coffee when needed and pee breaks. More later with pics if the family camera person can get his behind moving.

Holiday

The Eggheads have been on holiday. In Israel of all places. The trip to Petra was memorable and I'll be blogging about it later.

Red Letter Day

Today Sister Egghead arrives for a holiday from England. We are excited and I'm taking a week off to show her round Israel. I shall need another holiday when she's safely on the plane home. My first holiday in Israel strangely enough

Lost in translation

Toni will love this one. Apparently, it says in Welsh. "I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated".
