Israel asked US for green light to bomb nuclear sites in Iran | World news | guardian.co.uk

It is not surprising that the USA is not keen on Israel 'having' a go at Iran's nuclear facilities. The USA is pre-occupied with other things right now. My main objection is that it is certain to start a regional war of unknown dimensions and it is very likely to be only partially successful and unite the Iranian people behind a rather disgusting leader.

Judging this kind of threat is near impossible. For any critics , please consult a geo political map of Iran and review it's history before commenting. There will be a quiz.

Police find flier offering NIS 1 million reward for killing Peace Now member - Haaretz - Israel News

Wonderful. Peace Now activists have right wing terrorists to worry about. having been under verbal and physical attack myself on demos, it's getting worse.

Count Folke Bernadotte of Wisborg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I nearly forgot. It's the anniversary of the murder of Folke Bernadotte, assassinated by Lehi members in Jerusalem on the 17th September 1948. Like Yitzak Rabin, it's not a safe place for peace makers.

Work

It's a work day. Again. I'm sitting here doing unpaid overtime and I happened to glance at the dead tree version of the International Herald Tribune. For those of you have been in a coma for the last few weeks and just woken up, there has been a bit of a financial crisis. Lehman Brothers is one of the more visible casualties in this unpleasantness.

So, meet Richard Fulds (click on the link above for a very sanitized wiki entry). Last year he earned around $45,000,000. That's around $17,000 an hour even when he's asleep or playing golf.
If you feel you can take the pressure and drive a 185 year old company into the ground whilst earning large amounts of money , please call +01-212-526-7000. They need you. An ability to run up debts of over $600 billion would be an asset.

In the meantime, I'll get on working and not getting paid for it.

She's made it

Tzipi Livni made it. I tend to call her Zipper for reasons best left untouched. Israel will be having a female prime minister and I am happy because:

  • She's honest.
  • She's female.
That's good enough for now.

Israelis and celebrations

The Eggheads were at a 'Brita' today. That's like a Bris but without the snippy bits and for a girl. We arrived late which is unusual and even stranger, it didn't bother me a bit. Creeping Israeliness is descending on my shoulders. I even wore my shirt outside my trousers.

Mind you, the barman was convinced I was Russian and was hurt when I didn't understand him. To sum up the whole experience. Food, food and more food. The Eggheads are now full.

Greenpeace

The Eggheads and friends spent a sweaty afternoon welcoming Greenpeace Warrior in Haifa. We also signed the petition against Israel's new coal power station (again) after the Government decreed that the petition would only be accepted if everyone signed it in front of a lawyer. Greenpeace has more lawyers than the Governments has supporters so it got done.
